Olá, o meu nome Catarina Machado. 👋🏻

Quando era pequena estava sempre rodeada de lápis, canetas e cadernos para fazer rabiscos. Ainda hoje, é frequente abrir uma gaveta na casa dos meus pais e encontrar um caderno ou folhas soltas com desenhos desses tempos.

A primeira vez que aprofundei uma obra de arte tinha 8 anos, estava na escola primária e a minha professora apresentou-nos uma das obras mais emblemáticas de Picasso, “Guernica”. Com uma fotocópia a preto e branco na mão, foi-me pedido para desconstruir essa obra de arte e analisar em cada uma das suas partes todo o simbolismo e emoções ai representadas.

Analisar cada detalhe ao mais ínfimo pormenor, foi sem dúvida transformador e marcante. Se até então o desenho sempre esteve presente no meu quotidiano, a partir daquele momento tive a certeza que o meu caminho seria pela arte. Naquele momento, arte para mim era ter uma voz, criar impacto e uma representação de instantes com expressão artística.

O caminho foi-se moldando com o decorrer dos anos, mas ainda hoje enquanto designer, tento trazer para o meu trabalho tudo aquilo que me fez apaixonar pela arte. Criar peças com significado, ter uma voz em todos os trabalhos e contar uma história de forma impactante. Nem sempre conseguimos ser lineares mas há coisas que nunca mudam e às quais somos fiéis, as canetas continuam ao meu redor e os rabiscos em cadernos mantêm-se.

When I was a kid I would always be surrounded by all kinds of crayons, pencils, pens and notebooks to draw my doodles. Still to this day, it is common for me to open up a drawer at my parents' house and find a notebook or some lose sheets of paper full of doodles from those times.

I was about eight years old the first time I studied a work of art. My teacher of elementary school had presented us one of the most emblematic works of art of all time: Picasso's “Guernica”. With a black and white copy of it in my hand, I was asked to deconstruct and analyze all the symbolism and emotions conveyed in each of its parts. Analysing each part to the most tiny detail was undoubtedly transforming and memorable. If until then drawing had been always present in my daily life, from that moment on I was sure that my life path would be through art. In that moment, art to me meant having a voice, creating an impact and a representation of instants with artistic expression.

My path has been shaped throughout the years, but still to this day as a designer, I try bringing to my work all that has made me fall in love with art. Creating meaningful pieces, having a voice in all of them and telling a story in an impacting way. We can't always be linear, but some things never change and to those we are faithful. Pens and crayons are still around me and doodles in my notebooks too.
